Marine Mammals No other sea mammal captures our hearts and minds like the whale. There are whale watching guidebooks and whale watching has become a pleasurable and interesting activity. We experienced that on the Valdes Peninsula on the east coast of Argentina. We saw not only Southern Right and Killer Whales but sea lions and elephant seals as well. Large boats sail several times a day from Puerto Piramides to carry tourists to watch the whales. They don’t have far to go since the southern right whales gather here to bear their calves. They have obviously become accustomed to the presence of the tourists and sometimes come close enough to look them right in the eye!
